Today Gordon Brown finally confirmed that the General Election will be on Thursday May 6th.
After 13 years of Labour's broken promises and excuses, we now have a chance for REAL change. But I think we all know that change will NOT come from the Conservatives. After MPs expenses and the Ashcroft funding scandals it is quite clear that what they say and what they will do are two very different things!
In Bristol the Liberal Democrats are already delivering real change for local people. I have worked hard with my Lib Dem colleagues to bring empty homes back into use while preventing the sell-off of our green spaces. We successfully stopped a mass-burn incinerator being built while increasing recycling. Door-step plastic bottle recycling is on its way, and I have campaigned for lower bus fares in Bristol and an increase in investment in our suburban railway.
Nationally I am campaigning for a fairer tax system, smaller class sizes, investment in the green economy and a complete reform of our political system.
Here in Bristol North West Labour will come a very poor third and cannot win. It is a two horse race between the Lib Dems and Conservatives. This election is about who YOU want to be Bristol's local champion.
This election will be very, very close indeed. Experts predict that the gap between the parties could be just a few hundred votes.
