Paul Harrod, Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for Bristol North West has surveyed nearly three thousand homes close to the Memorial Stadium outside of the proposed controlled parking zone. The response was overwhelming and the message from residents very clear.
Firstly the lack of consultation from the Council is shocking, and residents have made clear that plans to redevelop the stadium, and build new flats and a hotel on the site, need further discussion and debate. The proposed Residents' Parking Zone is simply too small.
"It is clear from our survey, which we are presenting to full Council and to the developers, that there are several issues unresolved", said Paul. "We must hold off from signing any binding agreements with the developers until there has been full consultation with residents and proper examination of the Resident's Parking Zone."
"My survey also found that residents are very anxious that existing parking regulations are enforced. This to me is essential. Offending vehicles should be towed away if they block driveways or obstruct junctions unnecessarily. If needs be the Council should upgrade its licence to clamp vehicles and ensure that there is a sufficient deterrent."
Paul is also backing calls, first suggested by the Liberal Democrats that there should be a park and ride scheme originating in South Gloucestershire.
"Most away fans that don't come in by train will come in from the motorway. If they were directed to a park and ride it would ease traffic congestion in Horfield and make it easier for the police to escort them to the ground."
Paul and Horfield Liberal Democrats are very grateful to residents who took part in the survey and are keen to maintain a dialogue with residents who remain concerned about this new development.
