Paul Harrod - Working hard for Bristol North West

Paul Harrod

Dear friend,

Having grown up in Henbury and worked in Bristol for my whole adult life I have a real passion for our area and its people.

Ten years ago I set up a local charity to help homeless people into work - since when it has helped over 500 people into jobs and has branches across the country.

Now I work for the University of Bristol - linking up small businesses, voluntary organisations and others, to help create more local jobs.

But I want to go a step further and help people across Bristol North West as your next MP.

I think being an MP should not be about grand speeches in the House of Commons. It should be about fighting for a fair deal for local people when it really counts.

My mother worked at Southmead hospital during the 1980s. I remember her coming home exhausted after working extra shifts because they were so short staffed. We must not return to those days of chronic underfunding in our public services.

But Bristol has been badly let down by Labour over the years and I believe it's time for a change. So please back me and the Liberal Democrats this time and together we can get a better deal for our area.

Best wishes,

P.S. Remember, it will be a close fight here between the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives. Labour are out of the race locally and cannot win here.

How you vote in Bristol North West

It's official! The race to be our next MP will be between Lib Dem Paul Harrod and the Conservatives. Labour lost every one of their councillors up for election in the new Bristol North West constituency in June. The Lib Dems beat the Conservatives, winning five wards to the Conservatives four. With Labour finishing in a definite third place, voters will now have to choose between local Lib Dem Paul Harrod and the Conservative candidate when the general election is called. It's likely to be a photo finish so watch this space!

And the experts agree!

"Council results in Bristol suggest that Labour would be pushed into third place in the key marginal of Bristol North West in a general election."

Daily Telegraph, June 2009

"Lib Dem gains in terms of councillors mean the seat could be yet another Tory-Lib Dem fight."

Politics.co.uk, November 2009

"Much of the electorate here... remember what the Tories were like last time around and remain to be convinced by Cameron. Look out for a strong showing by Lib Dem challenger Paul Harrod."
